PagePlus X7: Can I disassociate Color Scheming from my document?

$

I think I have a problem.

I just experimented with using my first hyperlink, and applying a character style for it, which manages the font, color, etc.

Well that's all good when applying to the plain text beforehand. But when I actually apply a hyperlink my text color turned grey-ish and could not be overridden - at all.

Some quick googling and I found a thread mentioning to change the color of Color #6 in the Scheme Manager and sure enough that worked.

But what about other hyperlinks which I do not wish to be that color? I don't see any way to get around that.

Frankly I don't understand the purpose of color schemes and the way they are apparently hard-linked to how certain things will appear. I set the colors I want in my design and when I create them in my pallete. Sure, it may be useful to change on the fly, but it is not something I need or desire.

So I am hoping I can just find a way to remove color scheming from my document completely.

Or at least to get a work around for letting me use different colored hyperlinks. I think it is wrong that a scheme should have that much control over a document if there is indeed no way to turn it off.

PagePlus X7: "Encountered an Improper Argument" during PDF creation of specific page(s)

Hi. I am getting an "Encountered an Improper Argument" message box while creating a PDF with a specific page number requested in "Range:" on the "Publish PDF" dialog.

By a painful process of elimination (deleting a page at a time), I believe I have figured out the cause; if a page in "Range:" cross-references an anchor that is NOT in the "Range:", the "Encountered an Improper Argument" message box appears when an attempt is made to create the PDF.

For example, try creating a PDF with "Range:" set to 2 for the attached file test.ppp

While now I have figured it out and hopefully will remember in future the cause, it took me an hour to pin it down. If it is not possible to create partial PDFs if the pages include cross-references to pages not in the partial PDF, then an informative error message is needed (e.g. "Unable to create PDF - Page nn includes a cross-reference to page nn" or similar) rather than the mystifying "Encountered an Improper Argument".

Kind regards,
Graham.

Using five-digit Unicode code sequences

It doesn't seem to be possible (in any version of PagePlus) to use Alt+X with a Unicode code sequence for characters whose code points have more than four digits; e.g. the Emoticons range in the Unicode block from U+1F600 – U+1F64F. Is there a workaround for this? SM:EARS

PagePlus X7: Black & White to Blank

I have found a strange occurrence.
I started out with a jpg picture Greyscale, 8 Bits per channel and trying to improve its darkness in the inkjet print I recoloured it with the swatch panel to a dark blue (RGB 0,0,115) and set the tone at 100%.
When I tried to print this, instead of a print, all I got was a blank sheet.
I know it was not the printer's fault because I got exactly the same behaviour from my colour laser printer.
If others can reproduce this perhaps someone can remind me how to notify Serif off this.

Thanks in advance.

PagePlus X5: Table of Contents including hyperlinks

Is there a way in PagePlus X5 to insert a Table of Contents that includes hyperlinks to the pages in the PDF (not only bookmarks).

I know it can be done in PP X7, but I am using PPX5 (my 194 pages, 8 chapters book project and later versions of PP don't match very well. PagePlus X6 an X7 kept crashing so I am back in X5).

Any points would be very welcome. I want our users who are reading my book on a tablet to be able to click in the Table of Contents and jump to the right page.

Thanks for any pointers,

Loes

PagePlus X7: Folded document with an unwanted separation line appearing

Hi,

I'm working on a folded 200*100 presentation.

I can't tell you the precise English terms because I use the French version of Serif PagePlus X7.

When I want to publish it as a PDF, there is an option allowing me to assemble the left and right pages together for printing. But unfortunately, there's a ligne appearing just where the fold should be done.

The printing press guy told me that I have to get rid of it because if the fold is made just half milimeter further, the result will be horrible.

How can I get rid of that line ?
I've put a screen capture with this post.

Thanks in advance.

PagePlus X7: Ellipses replaced with... bird symbol?

I'm trying to understand what this behavior is, what else it might effect and how I can change it.

Usually if I have a sentence ending with a trailing thought or something similar I will put an ellipses or "three dots" on the end.

But I noticed PP replaces these with a bird symbol, and nothing shows up in the output PDF at all. No bird, no three dots, not even a single dot. Nothing.

PagePlus X6: Table of contents hyperlink issue

Hello Everyone.

I have posted the following question in a few other places on here as I didn't know how to start a new thread - a helpful person has clarified this for me and if anyone can help me with the following then I would be so grateful....

I'm using PPX6. I've imported a document from "MS Word" which I'm formatting into an e-book.

The word document contained a table of contents which seemed to import into PPX6 pretty well but the hyperlinks didn't work in either the online kindle previewer or downloadable kindle previewer.

I re-created the table of contents in PPX6, added in the hyperlinks, ran the pre-flight checks which showed that these hyperlinks were unsupported.

So, I used the pre-flight option to "fix" these and according to the pre-flight checker, the problem was indeed fixed.

However, the downloadable previewer is STILL not recognising the table of contents and the hyperlinks are STILL not working.

What more could I possibly do to rectify this and why the hell isn't it working?

PagePlus X7: Quick Question About PhotoLab

When previewing an image in PhotoLab the default background is white. Is that 'it'? No other options?

Let's say I have (I do) a transparent gradient or feathered edge on an image that is used on a black background in the doc.... I need to adjust it on on a black background to see the desired result.

If the Photolab BG cannot be changed, then I guess the only alternative/work-around would have to be to edit it in a photo manip app then put it back into PP. Yes? No?

Thanks for you input on this....

PagePlus X7: Crop to shape issue

I've been cropping images to a rectangle created with the quick shapes tool. While I made the rectangles 5.5" wide and 4.25" high, the resulting cropped image is slightly less than the original shape, 5.486" x 4.236"

Is there an adjustment or setting for this?

PagePlus X7: This Program Continues To Amaze Me

I had to do some bus cards and a full page ad for a client. They had some 'very' specific ideas in what they wanted... I had to clone some things they sent my way.

Here's why the post. I happen to own Illustrator CC and XDP X9 and DrawPlus and and and ...

But why do I ALWAYS fall back to PP? Ok, I'm not a pro graphic designer working in 'the' industry, but I DO have some experience with these different apps... (not too much mind you) LOL

So... I keep finding that PP (for me) is... out of the whole group, the easiest, fastest, and most intuitive of them all.

I know it is primarily a document creation app., but if anyone underestimates its design capabilities, they're deluding themselves.

The few attachments here, although not a big deal, were all made in PP without ever leaving the program. And all totaled was about 3 hours work.

As an experiment I went into the other applications to recreate these simple things and the only one that came close to 'ease of use' that was XDP. But PP wins for a list of reasons which I will not go in to. I love certain things about AI, but that program can literally torture you sometimes just to do the simplest of things.

So, for a half-as__d amateur such as myself, I find PP to one of the best 'all-in-one' most amazing applications available today.

regards
Cliff

PagePlus X7: Great free app to help with your PDFs

I wanted to try try this out properly before I told the Forum about it.
I've just discovered a program, a free version for personal and non-business use. Unlike Giveaway of the Day or Bits Du Jour this program seems to be available all the time but no-one knows for how long it will. I use it to drastically shorten the upload time for my black and white newsletter to the printers.
This great application takes in a PDF and reduces it wonderfully to a fraction of its original size. It works best with black and white photos but still is effective with colour.
You'll find it at:
http://www.orpalis.com/products/pdfr...ducer-free.php
I'd love to see it incorporated into PagePlus both for producing a PDF and reading a condensed file. At the moment PP will read a condensed file but balking at the highly condensed parts, so until that time,
do try it out folks, it's great.

PagePlus X7: Fills-Swatches --- Here's a Few Features I'll Bet Many Of You Aren't Aware Of.

I continue with my amazement of PagePlusX7.....

This is an fantastic feature (for me) in PP! And maybe for those who may want a bit more 'design control' in their docs. I think you'll feel the same.

I know the pros here are aware of this, but this is for the amateurs like me who like the 'easy way' to do things.

I like having a library of fills and patterns handy at all times when I'm creating something....especially ones that I have ALL KINDS OF CONTROL over from withing the program.

Now, I'm well-aware of the 'Assets' features, but I like this better. Here's a few screen shots/tutorial on the basics of this. I've only touched on what is possible design wise.... but that's for your imagination to deal with.

Hopes this help some of you a bit....

Cliff

Oh.... It might helpful to tell that this is about adding swatches, patterns and fills to your library.

Create text block out of a letter or number

I hope someone can help me. I need to make tee shirt artwork for graduating students. The idea is to use the numbers 2014 as hollow text boxes and fill those boxes with their names, flowing from one number to the next.

How do I convert a number or letter into a text box?

Thanks in advance,

PagePlus X6: Getting lettering with a clear background?

$

This is driving me bonkers. I'm trying to create lettering for a Cafe Press T-shirt, so that the background is clear, and ONLY the lettering shows up, without some background square, on no matter what color t-shirt it's printed on.

But when I export it as a jpg, the background is always white, even though I set the fill of my text box for a transparent background.

What do I need to do, please?

Issues printing on custom paper

Hi All,
New to the product and am impressed so far. One issue is preventing me from upgrading to the pro version and that is printing issues. Software is Page Plus X7 starter. So I create a 13x13(cm) card and it looks ok on the screen. I try to print but it doesnt print...the card moves and thats it. If I place an A4 sheet it prints ok onto it. I have tried the same thing in word 2010 and it prints ok. In X7 I select custom size on print dialog and have also tried this setting in the printers properties.
Any suggestion?
Thanks

PagePlus X7: E-book and TOC

I appreciate that this digging up an old post, but in http://forums.serif.com/showpost.php...02&postcount=6

Table of Contents - PagePlus TOCs are stripped out of ebook export because the ebook formats generate their own. I notice that the PagePlus Help suggests you should include a TOC, which is not correct advice and I apologise for any confusion that has caused. I will ask that the documentation be updated in this regard.
Does this still apply?

The PPX7 help file under epub states :

Quote:

When designing eBooks, do:
  • Pre-plan your eBook's design in advance of publishing.
  • Keep your story contained within text frames. Optionally edit your frame's story text in WritePlus, allowing you to paste content, import text and develop the story in isolation.
  • Use pre-supplied heading text styles in your story.
  • Create a single TOC.

If I export my e-book without a TOC it opens perfectly in Adobe Digital Editions and Kindle PC App, but as soon as I add a TOC, both refuse to open it (Kindle actually crashes).

I'm quite happy if the TOC aren't needed for e-pubs, but the documentation needs changing (still).
